Hey all,

I received an email from an outfit called 'Wegame' advising that a friend wanted to share a picture with me. Trusting this friend, I clicked through the required steps to see what image he'd wanted to share and as a result it's spammed about 474 people I know saying I've invited you to look at a picture.

First of all, accept my most sincere apologies. I should have been smarter.

Second - DELETE THAT EMAIL. IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE.

So so so sorry. I'm getting spammed left and right by confused people. :/ This is so noxious.

I routinly ignore such emails anyway. Buw how the hell did it get an address list off you? have they been buying social network data from facebook or something?

You sign into your gmail account and it sucks your contact list up in an instant.

Upon realising what was happening, I cancelled my "account" with Wegame, and received a pleasant confirmation that "all pending invitations would be withdrawn."

Lies.

I feel like a dork.

Rule one: never, ever, do that. Only spammers ask you to (and yes, that includes Facebook).

Yeah, I know. I KNOW :(

Today has been about the most rotten day ever and I was just in a fog of awful and not even thinking.

Just plodding along like a good little obedient spam serving drone.

SUCK. :(

Not to worry. Thanks for the notice on your LJ! That is a particularly nasty sounding phishing site! Delete, delete!

Urgh, it's gone to about 500 people.

Hopefully most of the recipients are more web-savvy than I am. I just got caught in a moment of stupid.

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much, at least you didn't transfer your life savings to a Nigerian scam-artist!

Yeah... at least.

On the plus side, it's prompted me to change my passwords all over the place which I'd been meaning to do for a while.

I had this email from you and from another person who I don't really know but who would have my address.. I was suspicious so first I went to the site to see what it said, and it looked legit-ish, like, perhaps it was the new popular things onthe internet and for some reason you wanted to chare a funny pic with me! But when it told me to sign up to see the picture I went OHHHH no, I don't think so.

SO hopefully just clicking on the link and not signing up hasn't sent spam to everyone I know!

Thanks for posting about it, though.

I went to the site, created an account, and then refused to enter my gmail password as I never do that for any service.

It was very persistent, and I had to effectively "hack it" by manually navigating back to the home page to see the supposed picture without giving it my password.

My gmail account actually caught it and put it in my spam folder :-) Thanks for confirming what gmail and I suspected! Also, I hope you are feeling better!

Yeah I deleted it right away - not that I wouldn't like to get a picture from you :-) but never when there's a third party involved asking you to sign up for anything.
